1st BIG Catch Report (21 October 2007)

Finally I landed this big fellow (at least 2kg) after 4 months of fishing using different baits in Miri saltwater. It seems that the local fishes prefer live baits as compare to what I use in Singapore = fresh dead prawns.
Bought 8 nos. of live prawns that afternoon. Lost 7 of the prawns during casting. Ha ha! (Still dun know how to secure my prawn onto the hook properly). Only 1 prawn manage to secure onto the hook which landed this mangrove jack "a.k.a. "chiak Zhor" or "Brown Snapper".
This fish is famous for the very very strong 1st run but also known to get "pan chek" pretty fast (it uses up most of its energy during 1st run). Therefore it is also the famous culprit for broken rods and making fishing rods suddenly flew out from rod holder and become submarine. Luckily I spot my rod being pull at 90 degree just in time before it was too late.
So total damage for the day: 8 nos. Prawns = RM 4.00, 1 no pail & 3m nylon rope (lost my grip while trying to bring more seawater to my prawn pail).
Expensive hobby siah due to my carelessness. ha ha ha...

Botak (almost) Jon

MIL saw that some of Jon's hair dropped off and proceeded to trim his hair, byut it was an uneven cut. So we had to bring him to the hairdresser for an even shave. He was most displeased, as you can see in the photos.

Time for a poll.
1) Jon looks better with hair

2) Jon looks better with a Buzz Cut

Growth spurt

Babies gain about 2/3 ounces or 19g per day in their first 3 months, which works out to about 600g per month. After one month Jon Jon weighed 5kg, an increase of 1.6kg from his birth weight of 3.4kg. When he was 1.5 months, we brought him to the doc to get his mucus sucked out, and he weighed 5.8kgs! His weight is in the 85 percentile for babies his age! Check out his photo during bath, and you can see evidence of the weight gain, albeit the camera angle. One advantage is he is so easy to handle.

On the alert

Jonathan is very aware of his environment, and will fidget and tilt his head to check out his surroundings. He will focus on things so intensively, we wonder what he is thinking about. If he hears sounds above and behind him, he'll be sure to check them out.

Hey sleek looking

Jonathan had a little flaking of the skin on his head in the middle of his 2nd month...we applied a little Johnson's baby oil on his hair. Then it will be easy to comb out the flakes. Here he is looking all sleek.
Tip: when using shampoo, use only a dime-size dollop of shampoo, or less. Spend twice as much time rinsing it out as you did lathering it in. Otherwise you will find flakes, which are actually dried shampoo.
