After an evening of mild contractions and trying to get enough sleep so Kim can "push" on command during delivery, Kim experienced her first few bouts of painful and close periods of contraction on 10 Aug from 7am. But Kim didn't want to go to the delivery suite for the insertion of the catather for epidural administration as she hadn't had breakfast. Smart woman, must eat something first, otherwise how would she have strength to last till delivery.
After breakfast, Dr Mattu said it was time to wheel Kim to delivery suite at 10am for Dr Lim to put in the catather. Since Kim could bear with the contractions, Dr Lim said he will set the epidural to be administered bit by bit. Coz if he administers it all at once, it would last an hour and he would have to top up later.
Then it was a few hours of waiting. Kim got some sleep while I read mags. Then it all began at 3pm. Dr Matthu and the nurses preped themselves and Kim for the delivery. From 3.15pm, it was "On your mark, get set and go!" When contraction started, Dr Mattu would tell Kim to push. It was difficult for Kim as she felt numbness due to the epidural.
It would help if one practices holding one's breath and pushing. But Kim couldn't hold her breath long enough to do a powerful push. After doing a few rounds, Dr Mattu said at 4pm that she would have to deliver Jonathan in the last two pushes or we would have to consider alternatives. We agreed we would not opt for C-section. So both she and I said a silent prayer and trusted God to help. We also agreed on a vacuum-assisted delivery.
Finally, at 4.10pm, Baby Jonathan Wee was delivered. He weighed 3.4kg and measured 55cm long. He's going to be a tall boy, just like his daddy!
Oops... I overslept and got sun burnt!!!
I will have more milk and sleep to recover from the phototheraphy.
I spoke too soon. As my jaundice level is raising quite rapidly this week, doc has adviced me to go under the light. As you can see, I am not being placed in a box with blue light all over me. This is another kind of phototheraphy spotlight available in this hospital.
Mummy will constantly turn me to my left, right, centre and my back side so that I can be evenly tanned. Hee hee... Though I miss my cot dearly, at least I am still able to eat, sleep and pass motion normally over here. This is important as I need to pass out all the toxic in my body fast so that the level of my jaundice can come down soon.
Finally I am able to follow mum and dad home on 12 August. Yes! Home sweet Home! To my beach-designed cot with my Corona beach towel beside me.
Chwee Wei, Andy and their kids, Dylan, Sophie and Sarah came back to Miri on Sat, 11 Aug after visiting the Mulu Caves and came to visit Jonathan and us. Here are the Yeos and Sarah with Jonathan.
Kim, Jonathan and me posed for a photo before Jonathan is discharged. Jonathan has slight jaundice and needs to go back on Tue, 14 Aug for check up. Please pray that the jaundice level will go down by then. Which means he has to drink lots of milk, and pee!
Jonathan was brought to the nursery to be cleaned further, while Kim was brought back to her room. After two hours of sleep, the nurse brought Jonathan to Kim to be breast fed. We were very blessed that Jonathan could latch on to get his first milk from Kim. Colostrum, or early milk, is Baby's first immunization. It meets the needs of a newborn baby exactly. Each time the baby nurses, he will receive colostrum in teaspoons – the exact amount needed for his small stomach and immature kidneys.
Babies can see only within one feet from them. Here is Jonathan checking Kim out.

Due to Kim having mild high blood pressure for the last few weeks, our gynae had adviced us to induce baby Wee out this week (38 weeks) instead of waiting for him to reach full term.
